Which Documents Should International Students Prepare For Before Applying

The start of your study's abroad journey can be exciting but also overwhelming due to the countless pieces of documentation you need to streamline the application process. Therefore keeping an up-to-date list of all the required documents is essential for a smooth application process which ends up in acceptance from the college. The deadlines to upload documents will vary according to the application deadlines of different degree programs and institutes. Here is a timeline a student should follow prior to applying to study abroad

  1. Research on Schools & Degrees At least 2 years prior to applying to a university abroad, students should start their own research, focusing on the degree they want to pursue and the institutes that offer that degree, and what are their admission criteria.
  2. Once you have collected the necessary information on the different universities make it a priority to read up about the documents required and then start the process of collecting those documents.
  3. Read up on the test requirements by the institutes. Follow this up with initiating the preparation for the tests whether it is GMAT/GRE or IELTS.
  4. Start collecting and asking your teachers to draft letters of recommendation for you, based on the number of letters required by the institute you are applying to.
  5. Keep your financial documents up to date, based on what is the degree/institute's requirements.
  6. Lastly, get done with your statement of purpose (SOP) at least 4 months before submitting your application as it is wise to get the SOP checked and evaluated by your student advisor and seniors for the correct guidance.

Once you have gathered all of the required documentation, you can begin filling out application forms and assembling your admission package. This will let you submit yours as soon as the institution opens the admissions.

Many prospective international students complain about their admissions applications being declined by the schools to which they applied. The simple explanation for this is that most times, students do not send or provide the relevant documentation to the admissions department. These documents are so important that failing to include them in an application will result in the application being rejected.

In case the student failed to submit the mandatory documents then the admission will be not granted to the students. The admission requirements may vary for each study program so make sure to read all the instructions provided by the university for which you are applying and then work on the documentation process.
